Yorkshire Dales

DSCN0700.JPGDSCN0707.JPGAnother of my trips out was to Settle. ---Settle is a wonderful historic Yorkshire Dales market town, in England. The name Settle is 7th century ,meaning "settlement". The town is the start of the famous Settle to Carlisle railway line, 72 miles of wonderful scenery. I say start the line starts really in Leeds =----------For this trip i caught the train from York to Skipton via Leeds, because i wanted to see Skipton Market. From Skipton i took the bus to Settle.arriving in the Market Place. Settle is a small place. ----There are riverside walks near the old Cotton Mills---I visited Victoria Hall in Kirkgate it claims to be the worlds oldest Music Hall, it was established in 1891.---I enjoyed Fish & Chips in a restaurant ,which is part of a building called The Shambles.----Market day is Tuesday, held by a Charter since 1249.--- There is a Tourist Office in Market Place.--- Before making my way to Settle Rail Station i drank a lovely pint of beer in the Golden Lion pub.---- Settle rail station is about a 10 minutes walk , there are great views from the platforms. Railway men call the track , Up and Down. The seats on the platform say Settle Up and Settle Down, to me a double meaning.!--- The Settle/Carlisle Line is part of the National network. Volunteers help keep the line going. The Signal Box was opened in 1891, volunteers restored it, now a Visitor Centre.-----------------------------Since Mobile Phones came along, The red Phone boxes went into decline,The Red Kiosks have been recycled to other uses, here in Settle it is a Listening centre,i have seen a book exchange also a Defibulater. ---CLICK ON THUMBNAIL PICTURES FOR INFORMATION.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------DSCN0705.JPGDSCN0708.JPGDSCN0707.JPGDSCN0706.JPGDSCN0704.JPGDSCN0703.JPGDSCN0701.JPGDSCN0700.JPGDSCN0699.JPGDSCN0698.JPGDSCN0697.JPGDSCN0696.JPGDSCN0695.JPGDSCN0693.JPGDSCN0692.JPGDSCN0691.JPGDSCN0690.JPGDSCN0689.JPGDSCN0688.JPGDSCN0687.JPGDSCN0685.JPGDSCN0684.JPG
